How to Clean an Asphalt Roof

common-roof-maintenance-tips

Many North Carolina homeowners don’t know how to clean an asphalt roof. Surprisingly, it’s among the most needed maintenance items you should do. Below we explain some tips for cleaning your asphalt roof. When in doubt, hire the contractors at Southern Star Roofing

Clean Streaks First

Dark streaks leave your roof looking old, worn, and filthy. As rainwater runs off, it leaves a trail of debris behind. Once it dries, these streaks will stain the surface. Not only do they look bad, but they can also indicate other issues.

Use Pump Sprayers

Simply pouring detergent onto your roof isn’t enough to get results. Instead, use a pump sprayer to apply your product evenly. Wait about ten minutes so that the cleaner has a chance to activate. However, don’t wait too long or it could bake into your roof.

Spray With the Garden Hose

Some will recommend using a pressure washer, but we won’t. Doing so is a quick way to cause even more damage, like missing shingles. Instead, only use a garden hose and a nozzle for safer roof cleaning.

Of course, if you don’t have the equipment or just don’t feel comfortable, you can always hire Southern Star Roofing for help. Contact us today.
